Country of Origin: EGYPT

The scarab (kheper) beetle was one of the most well-liked amulets in ancient Egypt. Because the insect was a representation of the sun god Re. The Egyptians' misinterpretation of the life cycle of the scarab led to the development of this relationship. A dung ball containing the eggs of an adult beetle is buried underground. The only part of this process that is readily apparent to a viewer when the immature beetles hatch is the beetle emerging fully developed from a dung ball, which is a seemingly magical event. To come into being is how the Egyptian term for scarab is translated.

The scarab creates large meal balls out of new dung and uses its back legs to propel the objects toward its burrow. The Egyptians believed that a massive scarab pushed the sun from the eastern horizon to the western horizon each day, making the amulet a potent symbol of rebirth. They associated this procedure with the sun's daily cycle across the sky. The First Intermediate Period saw the appearance of the earliest scarab amulets (ca. 2124 B.C.). In the Middle and New Kingdoms, they were frequently employed as amulets as well as seals (ca. 2030–1070 B.C.). In the Late Period (about 712-332 B.C.), scarabs continued to be popular amulets and were still in use in Greek and Roman eras (332 B.C.–364 A.D.).
