With these Egyptian papyrus bookmarks:

These papyrus bookmarks are created from Egyptian-grown papyrus and using techniques that have been around for a very long time. They can be used for a school history project, to teach students about the hieroglyphic writing of ancient Egypt, and to allow them to write their names in hieroglyphics.

• Great to frame as wall art. Our papyrus paintings are NOT FRAMED.

• Some prints have discoloration, tears and flaking at the edges given material and age.

• All Papyrus is hand-made & hand-painted, so yours may differ slightly from that in the photo

* Please be careful when handling because the papyrus is delicate*

• How Papyrus Is Made
The papyrus reed that grows in freshwater wetlands near the Nile is still used to make papyrus today. The plant can reach a height of about ten feet. After harvesting, the stalk's outer fibers are peeled away from the center and cut into extremely thin, broadly spaced strips. The strips are then submerged in water to remove the sugar. They are then beaten until all of the water has been removed. They are then positioned next to one another, barely overlapping. This unprocessed papyrus sheet is crushed once again and dried for about six days under a substantial weight (often a stone slab). The sheet's surface is then polished to a smooth finish after drying by rubbing it with a piece of smooth ivory or a shell. After that, papyrus sheets can be used.
