Apep (Apophis) (Apophis)
The ancient Egyptian spirit of evil, darkness, and destruction was called Apep (Aapep, Apepi, or Apophis). He was the arch-enemy of Ra, the solar deity, and a wicked power that could never be completely subdued. Every night, he would roar loudly and begin to attack as the sun passed through the underworld (or across the sky).

In Egyptian mythology, Apep was the dark, malevolent god who is regarded as the story's principal antagonist. He was Ra's archrival and the Egyptian sun deity.

When the Sun had departed the sky each night, Apep would frequently manifest as a huge, demonic snake that the god Set would thwart in its attempts to consume the Sun. Other times, Apophis would manifest as a massive ball of evil. He was regarded as the personification of chaos and aspired to engulf the mortal realm in darkness, putting an end to light and life. He eventually ascended to the throne and ruled over all gods and worlds.

According to the mythology from which he derives, Apophis is thought to reside in the Egyptian underworld and is hated by all of the gods.

Ra would consume the souls of those who weren't guarding him during the day while he was still in the sky, obliterating them completely in the process.

The only Egyptian deity who had never received a prayer was him. Instead, huge temples were constructed with the intention of praying against him and obstructing his progress.
