Pharaoh Ramses Ii on Chariot - Battle of Nubia

During his 66-year rule from 1279 BC to 1213 BC, King Ramesses waged numerous battles and won most of them, increasing the wealth of the huge Egyptian empire. He is frequently recognized as the most illustrious and powerful king of prehistoric Egypt.

This papyrus picture depicts his conflict with the rich Nubians, a culture that had existed for 200 years. On the south wall of the Beit el-wali temple, a Nubian stronghold, the fight is shown. Ramesses II is shown driving a war chariot into combat against the Nubians, with his two young sons Amun-her-khepsef and Khaemwaset following behind him.

He was forced to fight the entire war against the Nubians alone, with no assistance from his soldiers, according to a statement on one of the temple's walls.
