Book of The Dead Last Judgement of Hunefer, Extra Large Egyptian Wall Art Home & Office Wall Decor Ancient Egypt Papyrus Painting 36x16 inch

Large size Egypt Wall Art of Last Judgement of Hunefer from His Tomb the Book of The Dead. In the scene, reading is done from left to right. Hunefer is escorted into the courtroom on the left by Anubis. Anubis is also shown presiding over the rating scales. The pot represents Hunefer's heart, while the feather represents Maat, the established order of things, or, more specifically, "what is right" in this context. According to the ancient Egyptians, the heart represented both the positive and negative aspects of a person's life because it was the seat of emotions, intellect, and character. If the heart did not balance with the feather, the deceased would perish and be devoured by the terrible "devourer," the strange creature depicted above that is a cross between a crocodile, lion, and hippopotamus.

To the right, Hunefer is seen being brought before Osiris by his son Horus, having become "true of voice" or "righteous." This outcome, however, is unlikely to be depicted on a papyrus meant to ensure Hunefer's survival in the Afterlife. This was a common insult used to refer to deceased people in their texts. Osiris is depicted sitting beneath a canopy with his sisters Isis and Nephthys. At the top, Hunefer is shown bowing to a line of gods who are in charge of the verdict.

Hunefer was a high-ranking official in ancient Egypt who lived around 1310 B.C.E. with his wife Nasha. He was a "Royal Scribe" and a "Scribe of Divine Offerings." He was also King Sety I's steward and the "Overseer of Royal Cattle." Based on these titles, he would have been close to the king and held important administrative positions. Although the location of his tomb is unknown, he may have been interred in Memphis.

The fine craftsmanship of Hunefer's Book of the Dead, which was created especially for him, reflects his lofty position. This and a Ptah-Sokar-Osiris statue containing the papyrus are the only things that can be linked to Hunefer. The large, clear vignettes (illustrations) on Hunefer's papyrus are exceptionally well-drawn and painted, and it is notable for its good state of preservation. One of The British Museum's most famous papyri depicts the "Opening of the Mouth" ritual and contains a wealth of information about this part of the funeral.
