Country of Origin: EGYPT
This group of three female musicians is shown in a larger scene where the tomb owner, Nakht, participates in the annual celebration of the "Beautiful Festival of the Valley". During this celebration, the statues of the gods Amun, Khonsu, and Mut were transported from Karnak Temple to the shrines in Theban necropolis in a sacred boat. Music and dance were crucial for religious festivals and were regarded as methods to honor the gods and encourage joyful worship.
The women are playing three musical instruments, a double flute, a lute, and a harp-like instrument with over twelve strings. The soundbox of the third one is adorned with animal skin. Each woman has distinct features that differentiate her from her companions, such as unique hairstyles, floral headbands, and broad collars. Two of them are wearing long, tight dresses while the one in the middle has no clothes except for a narrow, beaded belt around her waist.
